Flat Stanley takes Malmö...and BEYOND!!
This goes out to all of my Coder Cats! While I am so excited for this adventure student teaching abroad, I am going to miss all of my sweet 4th graders at Coder Elementary. Flat Stanley is all decked out in his Aledo gear ready to take on the world. Follow along for his adventures here!
Up, Up, and Away!
Stanley made it abroad! It was full day (22 hours to be exact) of planes and trains. Stanley learned the ins and outs of the airplane life as he buckled up for the flight from Dallas to London. A little bit of a layover in London let Stanley explore some British cuisine and indulge in a hot cup of coffee before taking off to Copenhagen. After arriving there, Stanley was just one train away from the final destination of Malmö, Sweden. After a brisk walk in the cold Swedish air, Stanley arrived at the hostel he will call home for the next four weeks. He can't wait to see what tomorrow brings and to start exploring the wonderful city of Malmö!
First Day of School!
Today was Stanley’s first day of school! He loved seeing Malmö International School and meeting the students who are from all over the world! There are so many unique students to get know over the next 4 weeks. After school was over, Stanley explored Malmö and ate dinner at a unique food hall in the city center!
Crazy Days Call for Coffee!
It was a busy day at Malmö International School today so an afternoon pick-me-up was just what Stanley needed! He hunted around for a place to get some work done and stumbled upon a cool two story coffee shop where he sipped on a cappuccino as he watched it snow!
Mid-Week Update!
Stanley had another whirlwind day. It began with a trip to the school library where he got lost in stacks and stacks of books! He started in the fiction section where he stumbled upon a few favorites of the 4th graders back in Texas. He also took a look at classic picture books written in different languages! After school, he needed a little taste of the U.S. so he decided to wander to McDonald's for a coke and some french fries. After he was reenergized he was off to Copenhagen, Denmark where he visited iconic Nyhavn! What a day!
It's Time for a Getaway!
Stanley is saying adjö to Sweden and guten tag to a new destination for the weekend! Where is Stanley headed on his next adventure? Stay tuned to find out!
FriYAY!
Stanley had a busy Friday! He started off with some teacher duties at school overseeing a math exam and then helped some students brainstorm ideas for their narratives. It wouldn't be Friday without a little bit of fun though so Stanley enjoyed free time with Alex and Linn and busted a move playing Just Dance with Anna and Salin! After school it was straight to the airport to catch a plane for his weekend getaway in...did anyone guess it? BERLIN! Stanley can't wait to make some memories in this vibrant city filled with history!
Berlin Adventure!
Flat Stanley learned so much about World War II and the Holocaust this weekend during his time in Berlin. Check out the pictures below to see all of the places he visited!
Is it bedtime yet?
This is the question Stanley was asking all day as he tried to recover from the whirlwind weekend he had in Berlin. It was early to bed tonight as he prepared for another fun-filled day at MIS tomorrow!
The Tuesday that felt like a Monday!
Stanley doesn't know what it was about today but it was just one of those days that felt like a Monday all day long. He was so thankful when he got to do meditation with the students for mindfulness today. Sometimes a few deep breaths and some relaxation is all you need to get your day back on track!
Oops!
The class did a great job this morning working diligently on their narratives and because of that got to add a marble to the Marble Party jar. Stanley got the honor of dropping the marble. Unfortunately, he dropped it from a little too high and when it hit the other marbles, one of them flew toward the outer edge of the jar and ended up breaking it. Oops! After all of the glass was picked up, everyone laughed about it and all was well. The students said they were going to keep it like that though and not replace the jar so they could always have the memory!
Adventure Time!!
The school was wild today with the Swedish sport holidays just around the corner! Tomorrow is the first day of the break and students were anxious to get going. Stanley is lucky because that means he gets to do some exploring too! First stop is the city of light...PARIS! He hopped on a plane right after school to begin the journey. As the plane was landing, Stanley looked over and saw the Eiffel Tower from his window (look close enough, I promise you'll see it too)! Bonjour Paris! Stanley is ready for some crepes!
Paris!
Switzerland!
A short train ride took Stanley across the border to Switzerland. He enjoyed Geneva and also a day trip to the charming ski village of Chamonix in the Alps!
Inside the Assembly Hall that holds major meetings of the United Nations.
Czech(in)' Out Prague!
From Switzerland Stanley made his way to the Czech Republic to visit Prague! With only one day to see the whole city, he packed everything in and had a blast!!
Seeing Sweden... Stockholm Edition!
Snowy Stockholm was the last stop of Stanley's adventure before returning to Malmö International School. See what kind of shenanigans he got himself into!
Camp Malmö Cabin #3!
Camp Malmö is finally living up to its name because the third and final room has...BUNK BEDS! Stanley has loved playing around on the top bunk and will be sad when he has to go back to a boring old regular bed.
Movie Night!
It was one of the coldest days of the year in Malmö (AHH) so Stanley and the gang decided to do something after school that would keep them out of the freezing temps. There's a Swedish movie theater down the street from Camp Malmö and they had an American movie (with Swedish subtitles) playing. The movie theater was similar to those in the United States but the concessions looked different than anything Stanley had ever seen before. He helped himself to some popcorn and a drink and enjoyed a great movie!
Best Day Ever!
Today there was SNOW!! Stanley loved playing around in it with all of the kids during break. For dinner tonight, Stanley tested out his culinary skills in Camp Malmö's kitchen. He got a little carried away when pouring the parmesan cheese onto his pasta though because it came out of the container so fast! Oh well! It was a yummy meal to end a perfect day!
Hooray, it's Thursday!
Today was all about math and Stanley went swimming in lots of new vocab! He even took a dip in the ones blocks that were used to talk about place value!
HOME!
It's been a wonderful month but Stanley is so excited to be home. Thanks for following his adventures. Who knows where he will end up next!
